The Hunger Games is a trilogy
of science fiction and adventure novels for young people, written by
Suzanne Collins. The trilogy is composed of the works The Hunger
Games, Catching fire and Mockingjay.
History:
It takes place in an
unidentified future period of time after the destruction of the
current countries of North America, in a country known as "Panem".
Panem is formed by a rich Capitol, located in what were the Rocky
Mountains, and twelve (previously thirteen) districts that surround
it, the poorest districts, that cater to the needs of the Capitol,
and the richest, which are the most favored. As punishment for a
rebellion against the latter, in which Capitolio defeated the first
twelve districts and destroyed the thirteenth, each year a boy and a
girl from each of the twelve remaining districts, between twelve and
eighteen years, are selected by lottery and forced to participate in
the "Hunger Games". The games are a televised event where
the participants, called "tributes", must fight to the
death in an outdoor stadium called "La Arena" until there
is only one winner left. The winning tribute and its corresponding
district, will receive great riches and food respectively.
Epilogue:
In
the epilogue at the end of Mockingjay talks about the children of
Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, they went through a process of
doubt years before, to see if their parents wanted to have them or
not, but Peeta manages to convince Katniss. Years later it was
revealed that their names are Rye and Willow. It is related that the
sands where the Hunger Games took place had been destroyed, the
victims of these had been remembered by means of a monument. However,
the games were taught in schools and Willow knew that her parents had
been part of them. Katniss is in doubt about whether to talk about
the games or not. In the end, the trilogy closes with a phrase that
moved millions of people, which is: "Even so, I know there are
much worse games."
