Adolf
Hitler was a German politician who was the leader of the Nazi
Party , Chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945.
Hitler
initiated World war II in Europe with the ivasion of Poland in
September 1939, and was central to the holocuast.
The
Great Depression provided a political opportunity for Hitler. Germans
were ambivalent about the parlimentary republic, which faced
challenges from right- and left-wing extremists. The moderate
political parties were increasingly unable to stem the tide of
extremism, and the German referendum of1929 helped to elevate Nazi
ideology
Having
achieved full control over the legislative and executive branches of
government, Hitler and his allies began to suppress the remaining
opposition. The Social Democratic Party was banned and its assets
seized. While many trade union delegates were in Berlin for May Day
activities, SA stormtroopers demolished union offices around the
country. On 2 May 1933 all trade unions were forced to dissolve and
their leaders were arrested.
