Hi, todey we are going to talk about the dolphines.
Popular for their great intelligence, these animals, of scientific name Delphinidae, are further classified into 34 subspecies, among which the common dolphin, the spotted tropical dolphin and the striped dolphin stand out.
Generally, the dolphins reach a size between one and nine meters long.
The fusiform body of these animals makes them excellent swimmers, and thanks to the spiracle or orifice that they present at the top of their head, they are able to breathe out of the water. The caudal fin allows them to move at high speed, while the pectoral fins are used to direct movement. Finally, the dolphins have a thin and elongated snout that can have between 20 and 50 teeth.
Nowadays it has been proved that dolphins have an ancestral past in artiodactyls. In the Miocene period, odontocetes appeared on our planet, and the primitive dolphins did not differ much from the current specimens.
The dolphins establish their distribution according to the availability of food that exists in the different oceanic regions. Being such social animals, the dolphins live in herds that can even exceed 1000 for each group.
