The
story focuses on the brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, who in a
world where there is alchemy, dream of becoming state alchemists.
Both children lived in a small town with their mother.
One
day his mother dies because of an illness, and the elder brother,
Edward, decides to use alchemy to revive her although it is
forbidden. However, the attempt is failed and as a result Edward
loses his left leg, and Alphonse his body. In an effort to save his
brother, Edward sacrifices his right arm to seal Alphonse's soul in
armor. Thanks to the help of his neighbor Edward manages to save
himself. A few months later an alchemist named Roy Mustang visits the
Elric brothers and proposes to Edward to become a member of the armed
forces of the State and thus find a way to recover their bodies. Then
the left leg and Edward's right arm are replaced by an automail, a
type of advanced prosthesis.
So
Edward begins to investigate on the philosopher's Stone, which is the
only way to recover his brother's body. In addition they will face
the Homúnculos who are also behind the philosopher's stone.
