Handball (history)
According to specialists, handball comes from antiquity. Of the Greeks and Romans.
Handball can be considered as a relatively young sport. In Denmark, 1898, the students practiced a kind of football, but with their hands. in 1910, in Sweden, handball was reformed to what it is now, and especially in Germany, where it was practiced during the First World War, being in this country where it began as a popular sport, called Handball, 1928.
At first it was played with 11 players on a football field. This new sport spread in the countries of northern Europe, reminding that the first international friendly match in the men's category was played in 1925 between Germany and Austria.
In 1938, the First World Championship was organized in both modalities, at 11 and 7. In 1949 the Women's Handball with an international character was started, holding the First World Championship in Hungary. In 1955, the IHF asked the International Olympic Committee to include it as an Olympic discipline.
In 1968, at the Congress of the International held in Amsterdam, it is mandatory that the sport of Handball in the room be practiced on terrains of 40 by 20 meters, these being the current measures.
